Known as La Véloroute de la Mémoire - the Route of Remembrance - it leads through places that not only captivate with idyllic scenery, but also remind us of the tragic events of WWI. Its length is about 440 kilometers, and due to the mild profile of the terrain and the lack of serious elevation gain, this route is accessible even to novice cyclists. Depending on the pace and planned stops, the whole thing can be covered in 4 to 6 days.

Route

In the first kilometers, the route leads from bustling Lille - a city rich in history and magnificent architecture - toward Arras, known for its impressive Grand Place and distinctive Baroque townhouses. From there, the road winds through areas of the former Western Front, where memorials appear among fields and forests. One of the most moving points on the route is Thiepval, a monumental memorial dedicated to the 72,000 missing soldiers killed during the Battle of the Somme.

The route continues through Amiens - the former capital of the Somme region, famous for one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in France - Notre-Dame d'Amiens and the picturesque canals of the Hortillonnages. It then passes Noyon, Compiègne and Beauvais-the latter known for its sky-high Gothic cathedral, an ambitious but never fully completed work of architecture. The route ends in the heart of Paris, reached through green suburbs.
